St Louis R/C Flying Association has agreed to host the SuperFly again this fall and for the foreseeable future. That is right we are going to the center of the country. Last year was EPIC!
Over the past decade or so there has been a trend of segregated flying events based on the type of aircraft and flying style. What that accomplished is lower attendance and in fighting between fellow modelers over foolish things. SuperFly event series vision is to bring us all together and have fun with fellow R/C junkies. Large scale turbine vs EDF micro jet, Foam vs Balsa, 3d vs warbirds, Electric vs Fuel, etc, etc. We have proven all of those can play at the same venue and actually find out we all love model aviation! Big question mark for most is how do you control the flight line.
The answer is simple: we don’t the pilots do. Got a group of your buddies wanting to fly a warbird gaggle? No problem just get in line and let the fellows know that is your plan. Ask to please give us a few minutes doing formation worm burners. We are all sharing the same passion and it will blow you away how much fun this event concept has proven to be.
These guys (slrcfa.com) know how to do it and they will have a huge crowd of spectators to show off your masterpieces for. Speaking of that the awards will be very unique and hotly contested to win for the man cave ego wall. All custom made specifically for the SuperFly. Ten different categories and every one will be decided by peer judges:
Night time fun is on tap and has proven to be a highlight of the weekend. A SuperFly original, All the Fun Fly contest happen at night under the light towers! Back by overwhelming popular demand is the night pylon races. Having the fastest airplane doesn’t really mean much in this event. All of the fun fly events are structured so any type of airplane will be very competitive. The last pylon race was won by a Super Cub!
See everyone this fall and remember if it flies bring it. Balsa gliders and up from there!
It' s time to break out the Toys for the Tots, the Toys for the Big Boys (rc planes) and the Chili. It's our annual Toys for Tots and Chili Fly.
Non-SLRCFA members are welcome. Just need proof of AMA. Invite your friends!
If you're flying, make sure to bring:

From the spirit-airshow.com - December 2017:
CHESTERFIELD, Mo., Dec. 5, 2017 – Today, in celebration of the Boeing F/A-18 Hornet’s 40th Anniversary, the Spirit of St. Louis Air Show & STEM Expo announced the event would be held in both 2018 and 2019, with the US Navy Blue Angels headlining the 2019 event.
“2018 marks the 40th anniversary of the F/A-18 Hornet’s first flight,” said John Bales, president of the Spirit of St. Louis Air Show committee and Spirit of St. Louis Airport director. “2018 will kick off two years of airshows in St. Louis, celebrating these made-in-St. Louis aircraft, while also thrilling attendees with phenomenal performances from other historic and modern aircraft.”
The 2018 Spirit of St. Louis Air Show, scheduled for October 13-14, 2018, will feature the Canadian CF-18 demo team. Also joining the event for the first time will be the USAF F-16 Fighting Falcon demonstration team. These two dynamic teams will be joined by Skip Stewart in his aerobatic biplane and various other tactical air demonstrations.
The 2019 Spirit of St. Louis Air Show, scheduled for September 7-8, 2019, will be headlined by the US Navy Blue Angels in their made-in-Missouri Boeing F/A-18s.
Both airshows will be held at the Spirit of St. Louis Airport. Previous air shows had been held there in 2014 and 2016.
Additionally, in a change from previous years, all tickets will be sold online only.
“The event will also feature our phenomenal STEM expo on the ground, and will continue to inspire our next generation of leaders to take science, technology, engineering and math to the next level – and beyond,” Bales said.
Additional air show details will be announced in the coming months. For more information visit www.spirit-airshow.com.
